The 5 Pillars of Islam
-
1) Shahadah
Every Muslim believes in the oneness of God and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger. This declaration affirms the essence of Islamic monotheism.
-
2) Salah
Salah is the act of praying to God five times daily while facing Makkah, performed at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and after dark.
-
3) Sawm
Sawm refers to fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. From dawn to sunset, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs to cultivate self-discipline, spiritual growth, and empathy for the less fortunate.
-
4) Zakah
Zakah is an obligatory act of giving alms to those in need, aiming to reduce inequality and foster a sense of community.
-
5) Hajj
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Makkah that every able Muslim must undertake at least once in their lifetime. It symbolizes spiritual renewal, equality, and devotion to God.
